Edward Joseph Reagan, 83, a World War II veteran and a retired U.S. Post Office Letter Carrier, passed away on Tuesday [July 29, 2008] at his home in Pottstown, PA.

Mr. Reagan enjoyed reading about current events and spending time at the Jersey shore with his family and dog. He was a life long fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, as well as being a devout University of Notre Dame Football fan. He was a loving husband and father and was very devoted to his family. Born February 22, 1925, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward Joseph and Mary (Early) Reagan Lawless. Mr. Reagan was a resident of Bridgeport for over 30 years. He and his wife lived in Norristown for 40 years, where he was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.

He moved to Pottstown in 2006. Mr. Reagan graduated from St. Matthew's High School in Conshohocken in 1943 and Banks Business School. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1987, where he worked as a letter carrier for 39 years. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Reagan was a Private First Class assigned to Battery 'C', 283rd Field Artillery Battalion, where he served as a Gun Crewman. He was inducted June 21, 1943 and was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946. He served in Northern France, Rhineland, Normandy and Central Europe. While serving he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater of Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with four campaign stars, an Arrow Head for Amphibious Operations, a Distinguished Unit Badge Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Victory Medal. Mr. Reagan also received a Purple Heart Medal for wounds received on February 23, 1945 in Duren, Germany.

In 1976, Mr. Reagan received a Life Membership from the Goodwill Fire Company in Bridgeport, where he also served as a volunteer firefighter and past officer. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion's Post 0355, Bala Cynwyd Branch and the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 542 in Norristown.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Hazel (Dorethy) Reagan; his son, Edward Douglas Reagan and his wife, Susan, of Forks Township, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Dolores (Dodie) Reagan and her fiancée; Frank Corretini of Collegeville; his brother, John Reagan and sister-in-law, Mae of King of Prussia; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Rat Terrier, Dexter. In addition to his parents, his sister Dolores Reagan preceded him in death.
